چکیده
www.onk.ns.ac.rs/Archive Vol 20, No. 3-4, December 2012 Thyroid carcinoma is the most common endocrine neoplasm. It is a rare disease but the incidence is increasing during the last decades. According to a report from 2010, approximately 37,000 new cases of thyroid cancer are diagnosed in the US every year (1). Better diagnostic imaging procedures, as well as better clinical assessment, contribute to the increasing incidence of thyroid carcinoma. According to the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results Program (SEER) database for the period of 1988-2005, there was an increased incidence in thyroid cancers across gender, age, and tumor size, without a significant change in its mortality. This significant increase in incidence was mainly the result of better detection of papillary thyroid carcinoma, which is the most frequent histological type of thyroid cancer in the US and Europe (2).

How to manage patients with undetectable thyroglobulin but thyroid residue after radioiodine ablative therapy in differentiated thyroid carcinoma, retreatment or observation?
Introduction:Differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) follow-up after thyroidectomy and radioiodine-ablation is performed mainly by thyroglobulin (Tg), diagnostic iodine-131 whole body scan (DxWBS) and sonography. Some patients with undetectable Tg have thyroid-bed uptake after ablation in whom decision making regarding the need for retreatment is still controversial. Me...

Introduction: Differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) is associated with excellent prognosis and high survival rates. This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of baseline and treatment-related factors on the health related quality of life (QoL) in cured DTC. Methods:This study was an analytic cross-sectional study on radio-iodine (RAI) treated DT...
متن کاملUnstimulated high sensitive thyroglobulin measurement predicts outcome of differentiated thyroid carcinoma.
BACKGROUND Thyroglobulin (Tg) measurement following thyrotropin (TSH) stimulation is used in the follow-up of patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC). However, high-sensitive assays allow accurate measurement of serum Tg even without TSH stimulation. Here, we prospectively evaluated the impact of unstimulated high-sensitive Tg measurement in early and long-term outcome of patients ...
متن کاملWhich complaint has the most clinical effect on quality of life of thyroid cancer survivors in long term follow up?
Introduction: Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) is the most common endocrine malignancy. This malignancy generally has an excellent prognosis with more than 90% long term survival. Consequently, life quality improvement is the first priority especially in the young DTC survivors. In classic management of a new DTC patient, each therapeutic modality can significantly induce morbidities. In the...
متن کاملDiagnostic Whole-Body Scan May Not Be Necessary for Intermediate-Risk Patients with Differentiated Thyroid Cancer after Low-Dose (30 mCi) Radioactive Iodide Ablation
BACKGROUND A diagnostic whole-body scan (WBS) is recommended 6 to 12 months after total thyroidectomy and radioactive iodide ablation in intermediate- or high-risk patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). The aim of this study was to evaluate the necessity of a diagnostic WBS after radioactive iodide ablation in intermediate-risk patients with DTC. METHODS A total of 438 subjects we...
متن کاملValue of Dedicated Head and Neck 18F-FDG PET/CT Protocol in Detecting Recurrent and Metastatic Lesions in Post-surgical Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma Patients with High Serum Thyroglobulin Level and Negative 131I Whole-body Scan
Objective(s): In clinical practice, approximately 10-25% of post-surgical differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) patients with high serum thyroglobulin (Tg) and negative 131I whole-body scan (WBS) have poor prognosis due to recurrent or metastatic lesions after radioactive iodine treatment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the value of 18F-FDG PET/CT scan in DTC patients with high seru...
